So I’m not a big fan of Oprah…

… but while working in front of the TV tonight I caught her new show, The Big Give. I must say that although it is not a series I will go out of my way to watch, I am happy to see that she is empowering others to go out and make a difference in people’s lives. This is not like the Extreme Makeover: Home edition (not surprisingly on the same network). Instead of helping one family, the participants of this game show helped make major positive life altering changes in these recipients lives. The cool thing is these contestants think there playing for nothing!! When in reality, Oprah is going to reward the winner with a million dollars!

I’m sure some of you think it may just be Hollywood bullshit and the type of programing that only tuggs on viewer’s heartstrings. But I for one am glad that someone is trying to make a difference with their influence over the public.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if these types of shows started to replace series like Survivor and Amazing race?

I have to quote Malaak Compton-Rock, Chris Rock’s wife and a judge on the show. “Service is the rent you pay for living”

I hope you can take a moment this week to make a difference in someone else’s life. I know I will be.
