3.Sharing
There are several aspects of this idea that are interwoven into my business model. First off, I believe that I am sharing an opportunity with all of you, and the public at large. This is the first time an opportunity of this size has been shared with the public at large. Second, we are sharing in our profits with worthy charities and global causes in the hope that our efforts in achieving this dream will also benefit others in need and make the world a better place. Third, after we have funded this first film, I intend to repeat the process and share the opportunity with other film makers. We will open an online studio where producers can choose what film they want to buy into.
2.Peering
By definition, peering is the voluntary and free exchange of traffic between two networks, for mutual benefit. For My Million Dollar Movie, this is only half the picture. Yes, buying frames allows you to post your photos/clips as well as links to your website, thus helping to drive traffic to your site. However, things don’t stop there. Whenever possible, I’m working with you to make this project a reality. There are several ways this has been working. Several producers have traded services necessary to make this website become a reality. From legal and programming, to testing and marketing, producers like you are helping to make this project a success every day. And why stop there. When it comes time to Casting ,there will be several rolls that you as producers will help cast. They are not the leads, but still very important to the story. You are allowed to audition yourself if you wish. However, here is where your voice could determine the casting of the film.
We will provide Audition clips on line and only producers of my million dollar movie will be allowed to vote on their favorites. The Actors with the most producer votes for will be cast in the role.
1.Openness.
I’m not hiding anything from you as producers. I fully intend to keep you abreast of our efforts, and achievements as we move forward. I benefit nothing from hiding our progress from you as producers.
However, there are some decisions and maneuvers that are best kept out of the public eye until we have secured deals. Announcing our intent to contact a particular Actor could jeopardize our bargaining power and that would only hurt all of us. As for our hiring of key crew, you will also be alerted to these decisions as well. And for good reason. I want you to be confident in your choice to trust me with your purchase of frames. It is one of my goals to be able to repeat this process again and again and by remaining transparent, I hope that more and more people will trust my judgment. I benefit nothing if I alienate you from the process. In fact, I hope you enjoy learning about it as we go.
Part 3 tomorrow…
Last night I had the pleasure of attending Evil Dead: The Musical at the Diesel Theater here in Toronto. My friend, Chris Bond, is the Director and one of the creators. IT WAS AWESOME! We sat in the SPLATTER ZONE and were showered in fake blood during the show. For those who haven’t seen it and are fans of the movies, it is a must! I’m not usually one for musicals but this baby is simply to funny to describe here. One of the bonuses is that there is a bar and kitchen so you can eat and drink while being grossed out.
During the intermission I had the privilege of meeting Jimmy Fallon and partaking in a couple of Jaeger Bombs. Afterwards the drinks kept flowing and I got to hang out with some of the cast who are really cool . They are there after every show to meet the audience (and won’t say no to a free drink).
A big Thanks to Chris for the hospatility (and tshirt to soak up the blood).
The show runs until the 6th of September so get those tickets!
I wanted to give everyone a little insight into my business model and the big picture.
Within the Web 2.0 world, this little project falls under the concept of Wikinomics.
According to Don Tapscot, the man who coined the term, “Wikinomics is based on four ideas: Openness, Peering, Sharing, and Acting Globally. The use of mass collaboration in a business environment, in recent history, can be seen as an extension of the trend in business to outsource: externalize formerly internal business functions to other business entities. The difference however is that instead of an organized business body brought into being specifically for a unique function, mass collaboration relies on free individual agents to come together and cooperate to improve a given operation or solve a problem.”
Over my next few posts, I want to touch base on these 4 ideas and how they apply to this project.
With the most recent additions to our list from Belgium, Romania and IRELAND (my family is from Down Patrick), we now have producers in 21 countries.
There are 195 countries on the planet and we’re now in more than 10% of them!!
So I think it’s time to make things a little more exciting for you all.
Stay tuned.
… nope, not Flordia. I’m actually in Orangeville, ontario. A sprawling town with a picturesque main street. With only a population of 25k, you might ask why a metropolitian guy such as myself would be out here. Well it’s simple. I’ve been kidnaped by gypsy strawberry pickers and am being forced to labour in the fields during the day and sew colorful button murals on old quilts at night.
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding. I’m up here on set of the second season of The Adrenaline Project. I’ve been sworn to secrecy by the producers but the little info I will leak is that this year things are a whole lot bigger and that means a whole lot more work for yours truly. We’ve got a great team that is working hard to make life for these teen contestants rather hellish. I’ve even had the privilege to work some more with my new friend Allan Bishop. You might remember him from a few blogs back as the challenge producer from several seasons of “Survivor”. Allan is a great guy and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in this business. You’ll here me talk a bit more about him later in the summer when I’m cursing the giant, complex challenges he has created for me to direct.
So enough about me. If you’ve been surfing around the site lately, you’ll see we’ve got a whole bunch more new producers, as well as some additions to credit role and the bottom of the home page. We’ve added a legend so that visitors to the site can see if you’ve got video and weblinks on your profile. The new feature to the homepage is a menu that allows you to add us to all of your favorite social networks. Please take some time to use it. Social media is just as important as traditional and the networking is proving to be just as useful for distributing our message as traditional media is.
I hope everyone is doing well and stay tuned for our ET Canada clip, coming to the site next week. Again, you’ll understand why I work behind the camera as it tends to make my head look like a basketball on a toothpick. A big thanks to TJ Scott and Russel Braun for speaking out for us in the interview.
And always a big thanks to you for all of your support.
Cheers
Casey
